How VEIL works from start to finish

This guide follows the real VEIL interface from opening the website through identity setup, username payments, scanning, withdrawal, and identity replacement.

FAST START

Test the complete flow before using real ETH.

Start on Robinhood Testnet. Repeat the same steps on Mainnet only after sending, scanning, and withdrawing successfully.

02Connect wallet

Your wallet signs actions and pays network gas.

03Set up identity

Create or import the private identity that detects and controls payments.

04Send or receive

Use an @username or reusable VEIL address inside the VEIL console.

05Scan and withdraw

Find your one-time addresses, then move selected funds to a normal wallet.

Choose Testnet or Mainnet

Open the VEIL console, go to Settings, and select a Robinhood network.

RECOMMENDED FIRSTRobinhood Testnet

Uses free test ETH. Use it to learn the full process without risking money.

REAL FUNDSRobinhood Mainnet

Uses real ETH. Every network fee, username claim, registration, payment, and withdrawal is real.

Testnet and Mainnet keep separate usernames, identities, activity, and scan progress. Claiming a username on one network does not claim it on the other.

Connect your wallet

Connect MetaMask, Rabby, or another supported EVM wallet from the top-right wallet button.

The connected wallet signs actions. It claims your username, registers your identity, sends payments, and approves identity changes.
The connected wallet pays gas. Robinhood Chain charges network gas for on-chain actions.
It is not your VEIL receiving identity. Private incoming payments are controlled by the separate VEIL identity created inside the app.

Claim a username

After connecting the wallet, open its small dropdown and choose Choose username.

Enter 3 to 12 characters
Use lowercase letters, numbers, or an underscore.

Confirm the selected network
Usernames are unique and separate on Testnet and Mainnet.

Approve the claim
The connected wallet owns that username until it is deleted on the selected network.

There is no direct rename. Delete the current username first, then claim another. A deleted username becomes immediately available to anyone.

Create or import a VEIL identity

Open Identity. Create a new identity or import an encrypted backup you already own.

Private spending keyControls money held by your one-time receiving addresses.

Private viewing keyRecognizes which blockchain announcements belong to you.

Public VEIL addressA reusable address beginning with vt: on Testnet or vm: on Mainnet.

Your VEIL address does not hold one balance. It lets payers generate new one-time addresses that your identity can later detect and control.

Back up, register, and attach

Download the encrypted backup
Use a strong password and keep both the file and password safe. The file is required to restore or unlock the identity later.

Register the identity
Registration publishes the public VEIL address for the connected wallet on the selected network.

Attach it to your username
Your @username will resolve to the currently active VEIL identity. Future username payments use that identity.

VEIL support cannot recreate private keys or recover an identity without its encrypted backup and password.

Receive a private payment

Open Receive and share either your username or your reusable VEIL address.

EASIEST@username

The payer types your username into VEIL. VEIL resolves it to your active receiving identity.

The payer pastes your full VEIL meta-address into the VEIL Send page.

STANDARD0x...

The raw EVM address accepts ordinary MetaMask transfers without VEIL privacy.

Private VEIL payments go directly to a fresh one-time address. Ordinary MetaMask payments may instead use the raw standard address shown on Receive, but those transfers are public and reusable.

Paste an @username or a full vt: Testnet or vm: Mainnet VEIL address.

VEIL prepares a new destination for this payment only.

Review the transaction
Check the network, recipient, fresh destination, protocol fee, and total before network gas.

Confirm in your wallet
One router transaction sends the recipient amount, pays the displayed VEIL fee, and publishes the announcement.

The sender address, amount, timing, and fresh destination remain public on-chain. VEIL protects the direct link to the recipient's normal wallet.

Scan for received payments

Open Scan after unlocking the identity you want to check.

NORMAL USESCAN

No block numbers are required. VEIL starts from the saved checkpoint or the Announcer deployment block, then scans to the latest block.

RECOVERY TOOLADVANCED SCAN

Choose exact starting and ending blocks when troubleshooting or rescanning an older range.

VEIL reads announcement events and checks them locally with your viewing key. Matches are the actual one-time blockchain addresses controlled by the imported identity.

Only the identity currently imported and unlocked on the selected network is scanned.

VEIL lists detected one-time addresses that still contain funds.

Select the payment or payments
Keep using the existing selection controls to choose what you want to move.

Enter the destination wallet
This is a normal Robinhood Chain ETH address that will receive the withdrawn funds.

Confirm each required transaction
Each selected one-time address signs its own public withdrawal transaction.

Move direct-wallet funds when needed
ETH sent to the raw standard address appears in the Standard identity wallet panel and can be swept to the same destination.

Withdrawing several private payments to the same known wallet can reveal that those one-time addresses share an owner.

Check history and status

The Send and Receive pages show the latest few records. Open Activity for the complete local history on the selected network.

Sent records include the amount, fresh destination, transaction hash, status, and the username used when available.
Received records appear after scanning and include the one-time receiving address, amount, block, and withdrawal status.
History is local. Clearing browser data can remove labels and saved activity, but an identity backup can still be imported and rescanned.

Replace or restore an identity safely

A username can point to only one active VEIL identity at a time. To use another identity, first detach the current one.

Run a complete scan
Check the current identity for funds. VEIL warns about detected balances but does not block replacement.

Withdraw what you choose
Leaving funds behind is your responsibility. The old encrypted backup remains necessary to control them.

Download the required encrypted backup
Do not continue without safely storing the old identity file and password.

Complete the five-click warning and wallet confirmation
This detaches the identity from the username and removes it from the current device.

Create or import the replacement
Attach the new identity to the same username. New username payments will use the replacement identity.

VEIL does not automatically scan detached identities. Import the old backup again whenever you need to scan or withdraw funds controlled by it.
